ACTS Classes

A.C.T.S. Classes offer opportunities for spiritual growth through Bible and topical studies. Membership is not required to participate, and child care is provided on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm. There is no charge for most classes (check course description), but required workbooks may be purchased in the First Orlando bookstore. To register by automated phone line, call 407-514-4224.

Bible Study/Doctrine ACTS Classes  
8 wks, 1 ½ hrs This course is designed to provide a survey of Christian doctrines with an emphasis upon Baptist distinctives. The study consists of an examination of Revelation, God, man, the person and work of Christ, the church, the Christian life, and the Christian hope. No charge unless a student desires to work toward the Biblical Ministry Certificate offered by New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. 6 wks, 1 hr This class will study the development of Adventism and how their questionable beliefs came to be. Out of this movement came Seventh-Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Other topics will be included: The Manipulation of Thought, Is the Book of Mormon authentic? Also, a live testimony from a former Mormon missionary, and a look at What Jehovah’s Witnesses Say about You.
10 wks, 1 hr This class chronicles the life of King David based on the book of the same name by Chuck Swindoll. Learn more about the greatest king in Israel’s history. Follow his life from the age of 17 when he was shepherding his father’s flock and was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel. Despite slaying the giant Goliath he has to run for his life to escape King Saul. Follow his many triumphs as king as well as his moral failures, and learn why despite these he was described as “a man after God’s own heart.”
6 wks, 1 hr This epistle written by Paul is addressed to a group of believers who are rich beyond measure in Christ Jesus, yet are living as beggars. It was intended to make Christians more aware of our position in Christ and to motivate us to draw upon our rich spiritual source in daily radical living. It addresses how to be Spirit-filled, have a godly marriage, and how to win in spiritual warfare, and contains vital knowledge for every Christian.
12 wks - 1 hr Everyone and everything begins in the book of Genesis. It gives us our first recorded information about God, ourselves, and our world. This is a book that every maturing Christian should study.
10 wks, 1 hr Based on the book, “Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods,” learn 12 ways you can unlock God’s Word. At least one of these methods will be exactly the right approach for you: Devotional, Chapter Summary, Character Quality, Thematic, Topical, Word Study and others. A great course for new believers. Book available in bookstore.
6 wks, 1 hr The ancient character of Job raises modern questions, relevant to everyman: “How can a man be just before God?” “Oh that I knew where I might find God!” “If a man dies, will he live again?” “How does God justify allowing an innocent man to suffer?” To these, and many more of Job’s questions, Jesus supplies satisfying answers.
7 wks, 2 hrs Navigating a Life Interrupted. They shock us; they shake us; they compel us to change. You can’t escape life’s interruptions, but you can change your perspective on them. Priscilla Shirer redefines interruption and shows us how interruptions are actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams, and to a life so much bigger than you can imagine. 6 wks, 1 hr Eight core spiritual beliefs and attitudes serve as “triggers” for spiritual growth. Learn to understand and embrace these to grow as Christians. A great class for new believers.
7 wks, 2 hrs Live a life that makes a difference and take steps to develop a victorious Christian life. Grow a deeper relationship with Christ as you practice the six biblical disciplines of a disciple. This is not only for new Christians, but for all who thirst for a deeper relationship with the Master. Workbooks are available in the bookstore.
7 wks, 2 hrs The Disciple’s Personality: Be energized to claim the victory Christ won for you on the cross! Maximize your spiritual potential; break the bonds that are holding you back. Achieve personal excellence; abound in the fruit of the Spirit. Workbooks are available in the bookstore. Completion of Session I is not required to attend this class. Newcomers are welcome!

As you begin demolishing your personal spiritual strongholds to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ,” you will learn to believe God for all He wants to do through you. Then join God’s mission of making disciples by identifying your stage in growth and your role in ministry. Discover your spiritual gifts and determine a ministry to which God is leading you!

12 wks, 2 hrs The Unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ is a study of our Savior’s glorious appearing at his victorious second coming, and the signs and schedule of the end time events. Books are available in the bookstore.
7 wks, 2 hrs Loss, Love & Legacy - a study for women 18 – 28 yrs. Do you trust God enough to follow Him? 6 wks, 1 hr The Gospels declare the central message of Jesus to be the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14-15). Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy Kingdom come. . .” In what sense has His Kingdom already come; and what is there yet to look forward to? Most importantly, what does it mean now for a Christian to be a “Kingdom disciple?”
9 wks, 1 hr A detailed look at the geographical region of Galilee, understanding its historical significance in the development of Israel’s history and the life of Christ. This will be supplemented by spectacular photos and regional maps of the Holy Land. There is a class text available with all the photos and maps which includes a CD for $30 to be sold in class, but are not required.
