ACTS Classes

A.C.T.S. Classes offer opportunities for spiritual growth through Bible and topical studies. Membership is not required to participate, and child care is provided on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm. There is no charge for most classes (check course description), but required workbooks may be purchased in the First Orlando bookstore. To register by automated phone line, call 407-514-4224.

BEGINS August 25, and will meet on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays. Offering support and education for caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients, as well as education for those interested in learning more about this disease. What is the difference between Dementia and Alzheimer’s? From the beginning of the caregiver’s journey to the end, our goal is to provide compassion, support and helpful information and resources, as well as a safe place to navigate this journey. This course is designed to provide a survey of Christian doctrines with an emphasis upon Baptist distinctives. The study consists of an examination of Revelation, God, man, the person and work of Christ, the church, the Christian life, and the Christian hope. No charge unless a student desires to work toward the Biblical Ministry Certificate offered by New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Learn how to apply biblical peacemaking principles to respond confidently to the conflicts you encounter in your family, church, workplace and other areas of your life. Book available in bookstore.

God’s eight principles for living life to the fullest: Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal relationships, Outlook, Nutrition. An exhaustive workbook compiled by Florida Hospital is available in class.

There are 2,350 verses in the Bible that speak to your money matters. Learn what God's word says about spending, debt, saving, earning, budgeting borrowing and giving. This class will study the development of Adventism and how their questionable beliefs came to be. Out of this movement came Seventh-Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Other topics will be included: The Manipulation of Thought, Is the Book of Mormon authentic? Also, a live testimony from a former Mormon missionary, and a look at What Jehovah’s Witnesses Say about You.

This class chronicles the life of King David based on the book of the same name by Chuck Swindoll. Learn more about the greatest king in Israel’s history. Follow his life from the age of 17 when he was shepherding his father’s flock and was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel. Despite slaying the giant Goliath he has to run for his life to escape King Saul. Follow his many triumphs as king as well as his moral failures, and learn why despite these he was described as “a man after God’s own heart.”

For those who are grieving the death of someone close to them. Utilizing a workbook, videos and group discussions, learn valuable information about recovering from grief and renewing hope for the future. Cost is $20.00 in class.

How do we hear His voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear? Discover if hearing God is vital to our walk and how it works. We’ll look at various ways He is with us and how He communicates with us. Learn how we can be sure it’s the Lord speaking, and what to do on those occasions when we feel He is not speaking to us.

Based on the book, “Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods,” learn 12 ways you can unlock God’s Word. At least one of these methods will be exactly the right approach for you: Devotional, Chapter Summary, Character Quality, Thematic, Topical, Word Study and others. A great course for new believers. Hear about giving and why it works for the Kingdom and the giver! Is healing real, today? We're only an X-ray away from a prayer meeting - why most Christians believe in healing only when the bad report comes! Christians in the "radical church" tied these practices into an "unbreakable cord" that maximized the eternal rewards for the Kingdom and the believers.

Starting Point is designed to create a conversational environment where people can explore faith and experience community. Starting Point is ideal for new believers, seekers, and those who have been away from the church for a while. Each week, a theme from the Bible, such as creation, sin, grace, and others will be covered during session time. Audio CD’s and workbook $10 in class.

The Gospels declare the central message of Jesus to be the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14-15). Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy Kingdom come. . .” In what sense has His Kingdom already come; and what is there yet to look forward to? Most importantly, what does it mean now for a Christian to be a “Kingdom disciple?”

A detailed look at the geographical region of Galilee, understanding its historical significance in the development of Israel’s history and the life of Christ. This will be supplemented by spectacular photos and regional maps of the Holy Land. There is a class text available with all the photos and maps which includes a CD for $30 to be sold in class, but are not required.
