Carmem Carmo: Interim Director of the Pregnancy Center

What is your official title?
Interim Director of the Pregnancy Center

What does your job involve?
I have the responsibility to be closer to the Lord and bring His direction to every activity at the Center. Our main goal is have every client know that Jesus is the Hope for their lives and situation.

Where were you born and raised?
Born and raised in Goiania, Brazil located near the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.

How large is your family?
I have 3 sisters.

When and how did you come to know Christ?
I was 11-years old and in Sunday School. My Sunday school teacher talked about sin and the every sinner need of salvation. In that day I was convicted that I was a sinner and I needed Jesus forgiveness I trusted in Jesus for the first time in that day.

What was your first job?
Doctor's Office Receptionist

Where did you go to college?
I attended Seminary in Brazil. I also attended Florida Christian University in Orlando, FL, for Christian Counseling.

When and to whom did you marry?
I married in 1989 to Jefferson Carmo who is a church planter.

How many children do you have?
Two girls and a boy.

How did you get into ministry?
After finishing Seminary, I married and we planted our first church in Brazil in 1990.

Where else have you served (churches, ministries)?
From 1996-2001, I served by opening Portuguese speaking churches in the USA in the Boston area, Atlanta, Miami, and San Francisco.

What do you like most about your job?
Sharing Jesus with our clients.

What is your most memorable moment in ministry?
When I saw a young girl being saved and changing her heart from abortion.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
" He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken." Psalm 62:2

What do you like to do with your free time?
Read books and watch a good movie.

If you weren't on staff here, what would you be doing?
I would be counseling, working with families using a Christian counseling approach. I don't believe that there is hope away from the Lord.

Is there something about you people would be surprised to learn?
That I'm from Brazil, but I don't speak Spanish.

What brought you to First Orlando?
When I called the Pregnancy Center and talked with Sandy Epperson, the director at that time. She was so sweet and I became a volunteer.
