Improving Upon Sandwiches |
Few South Floridians will forget August 1992. Toward the end of that month, a compact but devastatingly powerful hurricane called Andrew buzzsawed its way ashore south of Miami. More like a large tornado, Andrew was the second-most powerful and last of three category-5 hurricanes to make U.S. landfall in that century. Entire neighborhoods were leveled and the town of Homestead was essentially erased from the map.

You Can Help Provide the Needy With Shoes |
It’s yet another creative way for First Orlando to share the love of Christ while also telling the people of Central Florida how much we care for them. As part of Fusion 2008, First Orlando is teaming with Soles4Souls to give 30,000 pairs of flip-flops to the needy of Orlando. Fusion 2008, which will be the weekend of October 3-5, brings local churches together to participate in community services to demonstrate God’s love through meeting needs.

2008 Christian Film Festival Looks to Reach the Unsaved |
Never underestimate the evangelical firepower of Christian films. Last year, The Greater Orlando Christian Film Festival drew 13,152 viewers of whom 77 came forward to give their lives to Christ following individual movies. Great numbers indeed, but the 2008 Festival is looking to do even better.

"Fireproof" Delivers Strong Gospel Message |
So, you think you have it tough, huh? Consider the plight of Capt. Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) of the Albany, Georgia, Fire Department: He spends his days heroically saving men, women and children from the searing clutches of fiery buildings only to return home to his cold wife, crumbling marriage and unhealthy computer-porn addiction.

First Orlando Introduces Brand-New Café |
It’s a reality whose time has come here at First Orlando. “This is nothing new,” said Food Services Director Marcus White. “In fact, we are behind the times when it comes to what just about every megachurch across the country is doing.” Marcus is referring to First Orlando’s brand-new dining venue, Café on the Rock, located in the rotunda of Faith Hall, which opens this Monday, September 22.

Get Real |
“Get real,” a popular expression a few decades back, was always a favorite of mine. It was a great sarcastic jab, useful when someone was obviously embellishing the truth. Or bragging. Or trying to cover up some sort of obvious misstep. It let the other guy know that you were onto him and his little charade.
