How to Talk to Your Kids About Tragedy

Check out the video and resources below from Sissy Goff, Director of Child and Adolescent Counseling at Daystar Counseling Ministries about how to talk with your kids about the tragic elementary school massacre.

  1. Be the source
  2. Let them lead in the conversation
  3. Tell them age-appropriate facts
  4. Give them a chance to share their feelings
  5. Talk about what they know is safe about their school
  6. Look for the helpers. Be one. Pray.
  7. Don’t feel like you have to have all the answers
  8. Be aware of your own emotions
  9. Remind them God loves those children and teachers and is sad too
